Preachers of churches of Christ in Peru hold their annual meeting in Cusco

At some more than 10,000 feet of altitude, it is cool to cold in Cusco the year around! At one time, we sent large amounts of materials for the churches in that area, mostly Quechua-speaking. They were established by Brother Hipólito Treviños, an evangelist with whom we have had a long relationship. It was our great privilege to go to Cusco and Machu Picchu when our son, Antonio, worked during about five years for Motorola in Peru. We spent a Sunday with Hipólito and the church in Cusco, one of the highlights of that unforgettable trip.

Pascual Pérez preaches for the church of Christ in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Pascual Pérez preaches for the Bayamón, Puerto Rico congregation. October, 2013.

Converted in the Dominican Republic more than thirty years ago through literature prepared in Puerto Rico, Pascual was a Pentecostal preacher when he read the tract that changed the course of his life. Becoming an active member of the church in that country, Pascual went on to establish a congregation in the Los Mina sector of Santo Domingo. Today, that church has a fine meeting place, with about 150 in attendance. Pascual has established another congregation in the area where he lives. He is 79 years old, with a strong voice clear as a bell, and a demeanor in the pulpit which inspires respect. Rarely have I ever heard, in English or Spanish, a sermon of the quality he preached in Bayamón, on the subject, based on one of the Psalms, “Oh Lord, Open our Eyes that We May See the Marvels of Your Word!”. Taking relevant examples from both Testaments, he made practical applications for the present. Eloquent, humble, forceful, well-balanced, concise, brilliant rhetorical flourishes, hardly looking at notes: that is how I remember his sermon. Many in the congregation were equally impressed. And he is 79 years old! Pascual’s youngest daughter, Eunice, is a member of the Bayamón church, having met and married Orlando Rivera, a man baptized in Bayamón, who traveled often to the Dominican Republic. How much good has come over the years from that one tract Pascual read! Stories similar to this one are really quite numerous. All glory and honor to the Lord.

E-mails and Notes reveal much about the material on our sites and reactions to it.

-Lima, Perú. Oct. 01, 2013. “Dear Brother, I give thanks to God for having found this Web Page, for it makes a great impact and is necessary. I would like to continue in contact with you. God bless you.” Alejandro Roque Beterma [This e-mail was sent from a Page on our site about manuscripts of the New Testament, part of an illustrated series given in the School of Advanced Bible Studies. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/manuscritos_NT_4.htm"]

-Place not identified. Oct. 03, 2013. “Hello, good day. God bless your way of explaining the subject. I had just read that phrase “…gird up the loins of your understanding…” I was like in the clouds, another phrase… [I understand the sense to be something like: “I was lost; another phrase that I was not understanding.”] But, blessed be, [“…bendito” is typically a Puerto Rican expression, making me think the writer may be from Puerto Rico.] God put you in this way so that you could amplify our understanding and not allow us to be controlled by emotions or the present times. I give thanks to God for your life, for He knows how much He has used you today for me. I bless your life in the name of Jesus, and may the glory and grace of God continue to accompany you always.” Yésica "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/mensaje_lomos_entendimiento.htm"

-This lady has reference to a sermon I preached in Bayamón perhaps four years ago on the text “Gird Up the Loins of Your Understanding.”  Part of the explanations and applications were illustrated by having three young adult brothers come up on the platform, where two of them tied wide bands with certain key words about the “loins” of Noel Estrella. Emphasis was on giving priority to “understanding” over “emotions” in the spiritual life. Not eliminating good emotions, but having all emotions be guided and controlled by a proper and full understanding of God’s truth. While Yésica’s blessings for our life do lift us up, certainly we give the Lord the glory for the power and beauty of His wonderful teachings.

-Oruro, Bolivia. Oct. 04, 2013. “Your teachings are very good.” Eusebio Atora. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/"

-Place not identified. Oct. 04, 2013. “Brother Homero, this teaching is very beautiful and has been a great blessing and edifying to my life. May God bless you, and may our heavenly Father continue using you in your ministry.” Elizabeth Vichi Ramírez [This lady has reference to the full-text sermon “God Is Seeking True Worshippers.” Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/Mensaje%20-Verdaderos%20adoradores.htm"]

-García, Nuevo León, México. Oct. 09, 2013. Excellent Web Page. I was looking for a study on Revelation.” David Guillen Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/apocalipsis_arpas.htm"

-Spain, Islas Baleares. Oct. 21, 2013. “For the time being, I am very interested in learning more about God by means of your Web Page, where I have found, by the grace of God, answers to many of my doctrinal doubts, which I could not resolve in the congregation I attended. I take this opportunity to express my admiration and congratulations for your analysis, highly detailed and on the mark, which bring much clarity to so many diverse aspects of the Word of God. May the omnipotent God continue to bless you in your mission to preach the Word of God to every creature.” Fredy Palacios

Movie and television producer in the Dominican Republic uses our material to make a television program

-Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Oct. 23, 2013. “Blessings. For more than 16 years I have been reading your pamphlets and tracts. Thanks to God, Brother Jaime de la Rosa showed me your Web portal. Now, I am a better Christian. As a matter of fact, I produced a television program, almost all the material coming from you. I am a movie and television producer.” Franklin ClasseReferer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/archivo_mente_espiritu.htm"

-Colombia. Oct. 24, 2013. “Dear Brother Álamo, warm and special greetings from us. We have received and studied the materials you sent in the past. They have been a great source of blessing. We are three small families meeting in a house to share this unique, welcomed doctrine. We have been much edified, and we bless you with all the love of God for so special a work you are doing. We are a small fruit of it.Aldemar Martínez and families. [Though small, this group has continued for a good number of years.]

-Cuba. Oct. 24, 2013. “Many years ago, thanks to your communication with us from Bayamón, some of us Cubans who saw your writings on faith decided to follow Christ. I have very good memories of that time (1995). I am thankful to God for having seen your credits on Facebook.” Guillermo Stay [This message came to us on Facebook. There was a time, probably just around 1995, when we were able to get a sizeable amount of materials into Cuba. Later, authorities there became stricter, and for the last several years only small envelopes of materials have been allowed to get through, and not even all of those.]

-Riohacha, Colombia. Oct. 24, 2013. “Hello, my brethren of the church of Christ. May God’s peace always be in your hearts. I am resoundingly thankful for the creation of this Web site. Thanks to God, by means of this instrument I was able to know the truth, and escape from all those ‘Christian’ sects and their erroneous doctrines.” Nelson Rodelo Celedón.

-Place not identified. Oct. 25, 2013. “These studies are excellent. God bless you and may you continue in this ministry.” Antonio Cerda

-Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/daniel_2_corel_02_04.htm" Antonio had reference to graphics and texts on portions of Daniel developed in CorelDraw and Word.

Vidal Huaman, in Perú, offers to publish on other Internet sites our studies on Tithes, also requesting authorization to record and publish a video, using the materials.

-Perú. Oct. 29, 2013. “He who addresses himself to you has read the teaching on tithes and contributions, and I have verified, for the first time in my life, the true teaching. I am willing to publish this here in Peru on Internet sites. What is more, I would like to record a video of this study if you, my brother, give me authorization, for here in Peru people get information by means of videos. I will be awaiting your answer. God bless you, brother. Until later.” Vidal John Huaman Barra [Of course, we authorized Vidal to use the material as he proposes, requesting only he tell us where to see the video once he has published it.]

-Place not identified. Oct. 29, 2013. “I am very much in agreement… with regard to Romans 6…” Luis Hugo Sautunce

- Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/bautismo-proposito-intercambio-Edgar.html" This article from which Luis wrote is an exchange I had with a man named Edgar about the purpose of baptism. We are very often challenged by visitors to the sites determined to prove that baptism is not for the forgiveness of sins.

-Seattle, Washington. Oct. 30, 2013. “Esteemed and beloved brethren, just to ask that we never tire of teaching the sound doctrine of our beloved Lord Jesus Christ, and that we continue contending with those who profess to be called Christians, for many are those who have deceitfully entered the house of God… seduced by that woman who calls herself pastor or prophetess. … I thank all of you, my beloved and valiant warriors, who make possible this Web site…” Mardeón de Harán

-Well, I do not know who that woman pastor and prophetess might be, but, to be sure, there are so many women out there bent on taking over churches in general. This person was on the list of documents having to do with the roll and conduct of women in the church when he wrote. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/mujer_compilacion.htm".

-Place not identified. Oct. 31, 2013. “Hello, esteemed brethren. A very good analysis of Revelation, chapters 15 and 16, just as I had imagined, but with the detail of the graphics another connotation is given and what awaits us becomes real. I hope all of us can understand the dimension of these events. May God continue to shower rich blessings on you.” Saragoza Tejada.

-The Referer shows Saragoza was on Chapter 9 of the commentary on Revelation when she wrote. Chapter 9 is devoted to the seven cups of God’s wrath, which hold the seven plagues reserved for the end of the little time. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/apocalipsis_9.htm"

Island-wide youth activity in Bayamón, Puerto Rico

Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, the young adults of the Bayamón congregation hosted a get-together for the youth of all congregations on the island. Serious planning for the activity began several weeks before the date selected, and resulted in what is considered a great success. About 180 attended, including a few somewhat too old to qualify as “young adults.” The principal purpose was to promote fellowship, and to that end most of the time was dedicated to Bible-oriented games and interactive group activities organized in such a way as to put youth from different congregations together so that they might get to know each other better. José Juan Álamo, one of the “young adults” of the Bayamón church –well, he is 40, but insist on maintaining his young adult status- said he spent two weeks developing is his free time (he is a chemical engineer) a “clues and find” game for groups based on Bible facts and people. Participants were talking for days afterwards about this game! As a matter of fact, the whole activity was often the subject of conversations for days after the event, and that is surely evidence of its success.
