So early in life do they start!

Three-day meeting in Sanford, Florida

Bro. Julio García and the Spanish-speaking congregation in Sanford have invited me to preach there October 21, 22 and 23, 2016. I have also been requested to present a lesson for the English-speaking brethren. Sanford is about an hour’s drive north of Orlando. Julio is a deacon of the congregation and preaches for the Spanish church.

To Houston in April, 2017

Organizers of the Seminario de Houston para líderes de Iglesias de Cristo (Houston Seminary for Leaders of Churches of Christ), headed by Bro. Fernando Corrales, of Houston, have invited me to be one of the speakers in April, 2017. It was my privilege to present two of the conferences for the Seminary in April, 2015, and I am honored to be called upon again for such an important work. As many as 400, or more, attend, principally from Texas and northern México.

Studies in Ephesians

Live broadcasts over the Internet from the West Broward church facilities in Plantation, Florida

Wednesdays, at 7:10 p. m.

Seven studies available, in Spanish, as of July 10, 2016

In June, brethren of the Spanish-speaking part of the West Broward church of Christ asked me to teach a class on Wednesday nights, and I was happy to comply, choosing Paul’s letter to the Ephesians with the purpose of analyzing and applying to present times its marvelous subjects, so varied and edifying.

Our son, Antonio, had the idea of broadcasting the studies live over the Internet, and quickly obtained the basic equipment to make that possible. He handles all the technical matters of filming and recording. In addition, he announces and promotes each study to tens of thousands of contacts through Facebook and a database of people who have registered to receive notifications of new materials added to our sites. The studies are also announced on the Home Page of editoriallapaz.

Here, I will add that it would take a special, lengthy report to recount all Antonio has done this year, in addition to so much done in previous years, for the improvement, expansion and promotion of these Internet works. His contributions of time and work have been considerable indeed. His expertise is amazing to a non tech guy like me. I do not use the expression “our sites” rhetorically, but really do intend to convey “his, mine and yours.” And by “yours,” I have reference to all who of you who make possible, through your support and prayers, the actual work that Antonio and I do. We are profoundly grateful for these blessings.

This “live broadcasting of studies” is a new experience for me! The challenge is to prepare studies that motivate brethren throughout the Spanish-speaking world, and even possibly non-members, to tune in and watch them live over the Internet. To that end, I began to develop PowerPoint slides, with enough text and graphics to effectively present and illustrate the subjects. Ninety-eight have been composed for the first seven studies. Their preparation can be quite time-consuming, but this is a type of creative work very fulfilling to me, and, I trust, of value to viewers. The slides seen by the viewer on the Internet are the high resolution ones prepared on the computer, and not those projected on a screen or wall during the live presentation.

A few minutes after the conferences are broadcast live, they become available in permanent form on YouTube, and are being added to Vimeo.

As of 7 p. m., August 11, 4,083 views of the seven studies had been registered.

Some of the e-mails received thus far this year

-Barinas (state), Venezuela. Aug. 10, 2016. “Greetings, Bro. Homero. May God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ continue blessing you and your family. Many thanks for those studies you share with the family of Christ in many parts of the world. Every Wednesday, I am present to see your teachings by means of the Web. I also read constantly your publications, as well as those of other servants of the Lord on editoriallapaz.org. All these studies are very edifying. I confess that, truly, I have grown a lot spiritually by means of the treasures of incalculable value that you contribute to the Kingdom of God. May the Lord will that you and other competent ministers of the New Testament continue to abound in knowledge and wisdom for the glory and honor of God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. On behalf of the church of Christ in the state of Barinas, Venezuela, many, many hugs and much love in the Lord.” Luis Montilla

When Luis writes: “Every Wednesday, I am present to see your teachings by means of the Web,” he has reference to the live broadcast over the Internet of the Studies on Ephesians. “Hugs” are a common way of greeting among members of the church in the Spanish-speaking world, in the category of the “holy kiss.”

-Guatemala. July 31, 2016. “I congratulate all who support this work. And also encourage you to continue spreading this Sound Teaching. I am from Guatemala and I really like your site on the Web.” Luis D. Muñoz

-Barinas, Venezuela. July 23, 2016. “I have been watching the studies on Ephesians. They are very edifying.” Ulises Rodríguez.

-La Ceiba, Honduras. July 17, 2016. The church in La Ceiba is using the series of videos on Ephesians. Bro. Osman Rodríguez, from La Ceiba, presently a member of the West Broward, Plantation, Florida, Spanish-speaking church of Christ, gave us this information.

-Place not identified. “As always, the Word of God correctly explained brings blessing to our lives, exhorting to continue steadfastly and loyally to the Lord. Thanks, Bro. Homero, for such teachings. May God continue to bless you greatly in your ministry.” Angel Gonzales. Reference is to Study 4 on Ephesians: Sealed with the Holy Spirit, the Deposit guaranteeing our inheritance and the Redemption of God´s possession.

-Place not identified. https://yt3.ggpht.com/-9kc0tdu-0dA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/-Bdu2UFqvGw/s48-c-k-no-rj-c0xffffff/photo.jpg “Excellent studies.” Edmundo GonsalesReference is to video Study 1 on Ephesians.

-Plantation, Florida. Ulbert Romero “Very good, brother.” For about eight years, Bro. Romero has been receiving partial support for work with the West Broward Spanish church of Christ in Plantation, Florida. Reference is to video Study 1 on Ephesians.

-Place not identified. July 23, 2016. “To tell the truth, I am very happy to have found this Web site, for it has cleared up some doubts with regard to the polemical subject of tithes.” Christopher Pantojas.

-Place not identified. July 18, 2016. “An excellent interpretation. God bless you.” Dario López Pérez

-There is no data on the e-mail to indicate what subject Dario has reference to. Very short cellphone message.

-Radcliff, Kentucky. July 17, 2016. “Many thanks for answering me. My address is 345 Elmwood Dr., Apto. 17, Radcliff, Ky. I will be thankful for any sermons God may see fit to put in your heart to send me for study. I am developing an evangelistic ministry. Soon, I will send you a link to a Web Page where I expect to have an Internet radio I would like to share with you. God bless you. Nelson.”

-Place not identified. Angel Gonzales“Thanks, Bro. Homero, for the explication of the truth in the Word of God.” Reference is to video Studies 2 and 3 on Ephesians, the principal subject being Predestination as taught in Ephesians 1, as well as Romans 8 and 9, and other texts.

Hands of God Church in Guatemala Publishes some of our materials

-Guatemala. July 01, 2016. “Brethren, may the Lord Jesus always bless and keep you. Thanks for your Web Page, for I see that our gracious God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is doing the work to make the church aware that it has lost its way, and that we should fix our eyes on the Lord Jesus, as well as on his holy Word. Greetings, and, again, thanks for your Web.” This statement came from the Hands of God Church.

-Responding to my reply, the author of the above wrote: “Many thanks, beloved brother. Blessings in Christ Jesus our Lord. With your permission, I have taken some of the material that you publish and have published it here in my country of Guatemala. Again, thanks.”

-Place not identified. July 02, 2016. “Thanks. It was a great help in my study of the Word.” Irma Castro. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/mensaje_armas_de_la_luz.htm"

-Reference is to the full-text sermon “The Weapons of Light.”

-Santiago, Chile. July 03, 2016. “I have had the pleasure of reading some of your commentaries, and have been impressed by how much the majority of them are on the mark, according to what I have studied in the Bible.” Nicolás Barahona Araya. This man goes on to ask questions about Deity and Trinity.

-Valledupar, Colombia. July 3, 2016. “Brother, God always responds to our requests for what we would like to know, and in this case, what many do not understand –Predestination. What possibility is there of receiving these studies on a CD so as to study them more?” Alberto Miguel Lopez Torres

-Reference is to the series we have begun on Ephesians, and, in particular, to Study 2 on Ephesians 1:4-12, the principal subject being that of Predestination. Twenty slides in PowerPoint were prepared for Study 2 and used in the live broadcast via Internet. Indeed, we can record this material to a CD, and plan to prepare one for Alberto Miguel. For years, this brother has been forwarding to all kinds of contacts materials we have prepared, using Facebook, etc.

Peru. July 04, 2016. “As one who gives conferences, preaches and is an evangelist in the Spirit of God, I have learned that studying the Sacred Word of the Father is the greatest thing I do as a pilgrim on the face of the earth. When I am unable to work at my profession, I dedicate myself, with love, to the Bible: in personal formation, study and learning of the knowledge and science of God. I admire and appreciate your courage in the preparation of magisterial studies.” John Baena, Civil Engineer

-Well, Mr. John Baena and I have been exchanging e-mails for some time. He is always encouraging me, and in my replies I try to encourage him, for, as he also explains, it is difficult for him to get decent employment in his profession.

-Place not identified. July 04, 2016. “Following your suggestion, I read the articles you recommended and it became clear to me what you understand with regard to Deity and Trinity.” Nicolás Barahona

-Place not identified. July 05, 2016. “I would like to know if I can receive your Bible study in my home.” Nelson

-Responding, we asked Nelson where he lives and how he would like to receive a study.

-Place not identified. July 06, 2016. “Brother Homero, it is a pleasure, to be sure, to receive information from you [about who we are and the interpretation of the fifth trumpet of Revelation]. Thanks to God for such a beautiful and marvelous work you are doing to save souls. With all my heart, may God continue to guide you through the Holy Spirit. From a distance, a big hug. Walter Omar Obando Montiel

-Place not identified. July 07, 2016. “Brethren, greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus. I want to thank you for the studies on the book of Ephesians, on YouTube. They are of great importance for the edification of the body of Christ… such profitable studies of the Bible.”

-Lima, Peru. July 07, 2016. “Analyzing the marvelous third study on Ephesians, we may conclude that the world depends on the gospel for eternal life in celestial places.” John Baena

-Place not identified. July 15, 2016. “Very good teaching.” Andrea.
Referer: "
http://www.editoriallapaz.org/pared_recubierta.htm"

-The Referer is to a study, and adaption to present times, of the striking analogy made by Ezequiel, in chapter 13, of false prophets who raise up a wall of false prophecies and others come along plastering it with loose mud.

-Peru. July 16, 2016. “Brother in Christ, I respectfully request your authorization to use the Studies on Ephesians for preaching and evangelization.” John Baena

-Place not identified. June 21, 2016. “I want to thank you for the effort you make, providing precious material for the good of the work of the Lord, and I remind you that the work of the Lord is not in vain. The Lord will faithfully bless you. Forward, and many thanks.”

-This particular e-mail was not signed, nor did it have an e-mail address to which to reply.

-Bayamón, Puerto Rico. Jan. 09, 2016. 1:05 AM. “Hello. My name is Mayra. I live in Bayamón, Puerto Rico and I need to be baptized. I do not attend any church, but I do continue praying, watching and reading the word of God. I have already been following the ways of the Lord for three years, but have been kept back from being baptized. For a time now I have not been in any church (to be precise, several days).” Mayra Cintrón. Referer: www.editoriallapaz.org/donde_encontrar_a_Dios_Luis_Alfredo.htm

The Referer is to an exchange I had with a man by the name of Luis Alfredo, the title of which is “Luis Alberto has not found God, despite believing in Him. Is it possible he is looking in the wrong place by seeking in his own heart? He asks the question: Could it be that I was not born to be a Christian?”

-Peru. Jan. 18, 2016. “It is a pleasure to greet you. I am a believer in Jesus and in the sound doctrine of Christ. I am from Peru. I would like for you to provide me information on churches following sound doctrine in Peru, and for you to also send me information on sound doctrine. I thank you for your patience, and many thanks. May God and Jesus bless you. Sincerely, Richard Espinal.”

-Place not identified. Jan. 18, 2016. “I liked it a lot. It gives a lot of detail.” Mariano Yam

-Place not identified. Feb. 02, 2016. “God bless you, and thank you for the purity of your studies.” Hernán Aguilar

-Place not identified. Feb. 03, 2016. “Beloved brethren in Christ, I do not have words to thank you for all that your work has contributed to my spiritual growth! I understand that God, in his infinite love, blesses me through your obedience in the way you serve Him. Truly, I am delighted, and rejoice greatly, to be able to study the Scriptures with your help. At the present time, I am the only child of God in my house. My parents have come to live with me, and, from their arrival, I have shared the gospel with them. Their constant questions have caused me to prepare myself daily to present a defense of my faith, and so that they may reasonably analyze, on the basis of the Word, the true will of God. For a very long time, my parents have attended a Pentecostal denomination. Thus, teaching them the Truth has been arduous. Thanks to the Lord, teaching by brethren in the local church and the work of brethren such as you, is producing fruit. It is my prayer that they will not delay in obeying the gospel. God willing, when they are baptized, I will tell you so that you may rejoice with me. May our beloved Father keep you. A hug, with all my love in Christ!” Adoración Sánchez Ramos

-Place not identified. Feb. 04, 2016. “Very much on the point, and more digestible for youth, as well as for all of us who did not understand these things explained here. Blessings.” Agustin Roblero. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/viaje_increible.htm"

The Referer is to the document “Incredible Voyage” –Viaje incredible. Excerpts from a National Geographic publication of the same name which we present in the context of “How could anyone read this and still remain an atheist?” The author uses many superlatives to describe concisely the marvels of the human body, even the word “miracle.” Of course, the National Geographic Society promotes Darwinian evolution, and, consequently, atheism, for, as English evolutionist and atheist Richard Dawkins would maintain, a Darwinian evolutionist cannot reasonably also believe in an intelligent creator of any kind.

-Place not identified. Feb. 06, 2016. “An excellent analysis of the passage on the dry bones. It was a great help to me for a course in the Theological University. I was able to explain, with strong argumentation, the significance of the vision Isaiah had. A thousand thanks, and I hope to find other analyses as good as this one. Wow! Very good!” César Reyes Ortiz.  Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/valle_huesos_secos.htm"

-Place not identified. Feb. 06, 2016. “Blessings, my brethren. May God always continue using you as to the present so that others may continue to be blessed. If it is God’s will, I am going to get a lot of benefit out of all I will be receiving from you, and it will be a great blessing to me and my brethren. Thanks.” Luis Carlos Mata Molina

With regard to what he will be receiving from us, Luis has reference to the e-mails announcing new materials.

-Managua, Nicaragua. Feb. 01, 2016. “May our eternal Father bless you for the work you do to give spiritual support to many.” Harold Jimmy Morales Rojas

-Venezuela. Feb. 07, 2016. “Dear Brother, many thanks for the material. It is very valuable to have this digital complement, together with Bible Scriptures, for our spiritual edification. May God continue blessing Editorial La Paz.” Ulises Rodríguez

-Chichicastenango, Guatemala. June 01, 2106. “By this means, I send greetings to editoriallapaz. It is a great help for me to be able to find material for my ministry of evangelization.” Gaspar Chan, who also requests tracts for distribution.

-Place not identified. May 29, 2016. “I like your site, and I am interested in knowing more about you. When it comes to Bible studies, my passion is reading serious and reliable literature. Many thanks. May God bless you.” Hilda Rodríguez Astorga

-Seattle, Washington. “Hello. May God’s blessings be limitless for you. My name is Sebastián Figueroa, and I am in Seattle, Washington, at the present time. I would like to contact a minister of this church.”

-I have been unable to find a Spanish-speaking church of Christ in Seattle. There are several English-speaking ones, and I am sending Mr. Figueroa a list, plus a Spanish-speaking contact in Oregon, and am forwarding his e-mail to the brother in Oregon.

-Place not identified. May 22, 2016. “I like this teaching.” Cristián Ricardo

-Place not identified. May 15, 2016. “A very good book.” Iván R. Buxeda.

Reference is probably to one of the three complete commentaries we have on editoriallapaz.org –Acts, Colossians and Revelation.

-Place not identified. June 01, 2016. “Very good articles.” Héctor Magana Fuentes

-Place not identified. June 22, 2016. “God bless you for these studies.” Domingo Salguero

-Lima, Peru June 24, 2016. “Good day and a cordial greeting. Distinguished and esteemed Homero Shappley de Álamo, man of Jehovah God the Father, brother who possesses the Holy Spirit in Christ, as a member of the people of the Celestial Zion of God in Christ, my holy affection for you. An excellent study; magisterial teaching.” John Baena, Civil Engineer

-At the top of the e-mail were these words: Study by Homero Shappley de Álamo: Online, through Youtube. And, thereby, I know Mr. Baena had reference to Study 1 on Ephesians, presented live over the Internet, Wednesday, June 22, in a classroom of the West Broward church of Christ, Plantation, Florida. As I observed in my reply to Mr. Baena, all that I am and do in God’s Kingdom is due to His light, power, glory and providential intervention, and, therefore, all honor I do give to Him.

-Barinas, Venezuela. June 26, 2016. “Greetings in the love of Christ. I am pleased to write you. Brother Homero. Thanks for the study on Ephesians. It is very edifying. Thanks to God the Father for using you in such a great way.” Ulises Rodríguez

-Study 1 on Ephesians was broadcast live on the Internet, Wednesday, June 22, from a classroom of the West Broward Church of Christ, Plantation, Florida. It is available on Youtube 24/7. Ulises Rodríguez was converted last year through studies on editoriallapaz.

-The church of Christ in Barinas, Venezuela has about 450 members. There are about 6,000 members of the church in Venezuela. This data was given to me by Bro. José Pineda, a Venezuelan preacher who recently visited the West Broward Spanish-speaking congregation.

-Place not identified. June 26, 2016. “I am an evangelical Pentecostal, and I like to study a lot (examine everything, retaining the good). My question is: Where do I go when I leave Pentecostalism?” José Andrade

-Place not identified. June 27, 2016. “An excellent explanation of the Hebrew sacerdotal garments and their relation with the spiritual life of the Christian.” Fabiola Ulloa Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/tabernaculo-terrenal-tabernaculo-espiritual-2.html"

-The Referer is to a rather long treatise written by Bro. Juan Colón when he lived in Puerto Rico quite a number of years ago. The title is “The Earthly Tabernacle Versus the Spiritual Tabernacle.” This material was printed as a booklet, and later added to the resources on editoriallapaz.

-Place not identified. June 27, 2016. “Many thanks, brother. May God continue blessing you. Truthfully, what a good study! God always gives us his Word when we really need it.” Marlin

-As data on the e-mail indicate, reference is to Study 1 on Ephesians – “All Good Blessings in Heavenly Places.” Ephesians 1:1-3. This study was broadcast live on the Internet, Wednesday night, June 22, and an hour later was available on Youtube. It will continue to be available, a free service of Youtube.com.

-Place not identified. June 27, 2016. “Brother, I write just to thank you for these editorials which are a help to us. May God bless you.” Clausia

-Place not identified. June 27, 2016. “Greetings, brother Shappley. Thanks for sharing the fruit of your efforts in the work of our gracious God and the Savior Jesus Christ.” Julio Ortiz

-Río California. June 28, 2016. “I send you a huge greeting in the name of Christ. The purpose of this message is to see if you can help us print some tracts for evangelization, to distribute from house to house. The one we had is “Friend, We Invite You to Learn about the Church Christ Established.” How much would we be charged?” José Luis Alvarado

-This is typical of the requests we often receive for tracts. I think Río California is in México. The tract mentioned by José Luis is the most effective one we have ever printed –more than 8 million copies. Since José Luis is willing to pay the cost of tracts, we will see if we can help him. We now have this tract in a format which can easily be downloaded from editoriallapaz, and printed. Even with a small printer connected to a computer, a thousand can be printed, in color, in a relatively short time.

-Colombia. June 30, 2016. “Beloved brother, many thanks for the detailed explanation of Predestination according to the Word of God.” Alberto López Torres

-Reference is to Study 2, on Ephesians, covering Ephesians 1:4-12. This study was broadcast live on the Internet, June 29, 2016, and remains available on Youtube.

PS My old HP laptop came to the end of its service after more than six years of intensive use and being carted around everywhere. With Antonio’s advice, a new HP Pavilion laptop has been obtained. It is very fast, with an Intel i7, 16 GB of DDR4-213 SDRAM, a NVIDIA GeForce dedicated graphics card, SuperMulti DVD burner and a 500 GB Solid State Hard Drive. Plus, a lighted keyboard, and an amazing 17.3 inch UHD display, at 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. Rather expensive at $1,479.83, but Antonio found $370.00 in coupons, bringing the price down to $1,109.98. Adding $219.99 for three years of full insurance, and $79.80 in taxes, the total came to $1,409.77. Since I spend long hours almost every day on the computer, the UHD display and speed of this machine are greatly appreciated. Also, the backlit keyboard.
