Report from Dewayne and Rita Shappley

For the month of August, 2014

This image of the planet Earth with a computer superimposed illustrates the Report by Shappleyes for August, 2014.

Our daily Internet “Audience” for this month was 3,780, for a weekly average of 26,460. The total for the 31 day month is 117,171. The number of documents (Bible studies, sermons, articles, leadership training lessons) accessed was 203,680.

At this rate, several thousand members of churches of Christ and believers of other churches are receiving Bible instruction each week, and several thousand souls are being evangelized to one degree or another. Every week! 26,460 visits weekly!

Trip to Florida

Monday, July 28, 2014, Rita and I traveled from Puerto Rico to Coral Springs, Florida, where our son, Antonio, his wife, Irelis, and their daughter, Kiara Karina, live. A little more than ten months had gone by since we were last together. On July 26, Kiara celebrated her eight birthday. One of our purposes in making this trip was to help take care of Kiara, and also Irelis, for she has continued to suffer greatly from complications caused by Lyme disease. In his ongoing work with Motorola, Antonio has been given new responsibilities requiring him to spend more time at the office than he did previously when he could do almost all his work from home.

Since I am able to carry on my principal work –evangelism and edification by means of Internet sites- anywhere I can have a computer and a connection to the Internet, I have been doing precisely that in Coral Springs.

Twenty-nine entries were made to the Internet sites during August, 2014. New version of J. W. McGarvey’s Commentary on Acts completed.

The ship on which the apostle Paul was being taken prisoner to Rome was driven aground on the island of Malta by a furious storm. Of the 276 passengers and crew, not a one was lost! This is one of the graphics added to the Commentary on Acts, by J. W. McGarvery.

Among the entries were a number making up portions of the Commentary on Acts, by J. W. McGarvey. I have been working, off and on, for weeks on a new Internet version of this very valuable resource, in Spanish, rereading and checking the entire text, reformatting much of it to make it look the same across all sections, adding graphics, identifying properly each section for Internet “crawlers”, used by Google, Yahoo, etcetera, to index materials on the Internet for search purposes, and making each section also available as a PDF (Portable Document File), facilitating downloading and printing. This new version is the equivalent of 260 letter size pages. The last installment, covering chapters 27 and 28 of Acts, can be accessed through the following link: www.editoriallapaz.org/Hechos_McGarvey_27_1_al final.htm.

An important addition during August was that of nine PDF (Portable Document File) images for Lesson 1 of the leadership training course “Good ministers of Jesus Christ.” The subject of this lesson is “The First Stage in the Life and Ministries of God’s Ministers: From Fifteen to Thirty-five Years of Age.” Originally created in CorelDraw 10, I transferred the images to PowerPoint, and then made them available on the Internet by means of a revolving carrousel that allows them to be reviewed quickly, by stopping the carrousel on any one, the carrousel itself also serving as the link to the large, high resolution images. These may be used for personal study right on the Internet, saving to a computer, printing and, by following instructions included on the Page, making one’s own PowerPoint Presentation. www.editoriallapaz.org/BM_1_imagenes_PDF_carrusel.html

The same steps were implemented to also make available in the same way ten PDF images for Lesson 6 entitled “Cycles in the Development of the Church and Religions.”http://www.editoriallapaz.org/BM_6_PDF_carrusel.html

Introductory slide to the sermon in Spanish Future Events I Would Like to Avoid and some in which I Want to Particpate, for Shappley Report, for August, 2014.

Above, the introductory slide to the sermon described below.

Preaching for the West Broward, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Spanish-speaking congregation

Invited to present a message for the Sunday service, August 10, 2014, I chose the subject: Future Events that Motivate Me to Walk a Straight Line in the Present.”Three future events I would like to avoid at all cost because of the anguish, suffering and eternal shame they will bring. They are: Die, like those who have no hope. Be judged, not having done the will of the Judge of souls. Be thrown into prisons of eternal darkness. Three future events in which I greatly wish to participate because of the eternal blessedness and happiness they will bring. They are: Die in Christ, confident that God rewards, according to his promises, those who love and obey him. Personally participate in the resurrection and transformation of the saints, receiving a new spiritual body, powerful, glorious and immortal. Be admitted to the Jerusalem from above, the celestial city of God, enjoying its blessings forevermore. This sermon is an adaption of Lesson 6 of the series presented during six months of Wednesday night classes for the Bayamon, Puerto Rico church: “Events of the Past and the Future that Motivate Me to Walk a Straight Line in the Present.” Fifteen slides in PowerPoint were used to present the sermon. Positive comments abounded. To the Lord be all the glory. My daily prayer is to be a useful instrument in his kingdom.
